Service Description
This class is for people that have taken my intro class or people who have been working on similar skills at home. This course is a month-long class and It will be held on April 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd from 4-7PM Tools, Silver, Gemstones, and protective gear is included in the price. The intermediate silversmithing class is going to offer a wide variety of projects and tools. Like the intro class we will be using the soldering techniques that we learned. My goal as a teacher will be to show the students how to design, plan, and execute more complicated pieces. Students will learn how to properly use and care for a jewelers saw as well as confidently cut out the shapes and materials to complete their project. The first day, we will focus and execute a simple earring design to get the ball rolling and refresh our minds on how to bezel set cabochons and how to solder safely and correct. The next three sessions thereafter, will be up to the student to design a piece of jewelry of their own choosing. I will help guide the students during the design process and we will draw a replica of the piece you will be fabricating. From there we will step by step start the fabrication of their piece and incorporate the use of many of the necessary tools in the silversmithing vocation. The point of this class is to get the students to the point where they have the knowledge and confidence they need to start their silversmithing journey at home. After this class is finished, I will offer help on buying kits and give advice on what you need to get their own set up at home. All tools, gemstones, and silver will be provided. Students will be welcome to bring their own gemstones if they are cabochons and are not too big. I will have a large selection of gems that people can choose from so no sweet if you don’t have any. Students will be asked to sign a health and safety waiver and will need to wear protective eyeglasses and masks.
